No regrets

Being a sports fan is rough. Im not even a real sports fan but I have to admit, a girl can feel a bit down after a weekend of losses. The weekend's sports events were as follows:

Winterhawks: Lost. (not only that, but they didnt even fight ONCE. The whole reason to see them play their rivals (Seattle) is to watch them fight.)

Blazers: Lost. (On the other hand, the Bulls won and they have been Pancho's team since he was a wee Michael Jordan fan. So, it was only a 50% loss.)

Bears: Lost. Big time. The final score may not reflect it, but they were fuckin up.

Despite the weekends obvious set-backs, we managed to have ourselves a lot of fun. Friday night marked the first time Pancho and I have been drunk in over a year. It was indeed a great time, but at one point I did stop to reflect on how ridiculous a bar scene truly is. Adults come (flock) to a location which sells its booze at an approximate mark-up of 300% to sit uncomfortably in other peoples' cigarette smoke (as a former smoker, I understand the relationship between drinking and smoking, but in the 21st century, you would think these establishments would have better ventilation!) simply to socialize with each other? We can do better than that! We invented electricity! We travel in outer space! We cant come up with a better way to hang out with each other?
So, Pancho and I did figure out a better way to hang out with each other and left the bar to head over to Ground Kontrol, an arcade with a bar in it. A place where you can race cars drunk without the ill effects of a DUII or fatal wrecks! You can also fight, dance, golf or save the universe! Now we're talkin!
Saturdays hang over was enough to convince us that the price of being drunk is still not worth it for us. Literally. Going out drinking is expensive for the body and the wallet.

And, as it will always be in a world of checks and balances, for every Justin Timberlake out there -proving to the world that white people can dance- there are always going to be the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' proving we cant.

Such is life.
