Pancho and I have kept a steady pace of packing at least three boxes every night after work. At this rate, we should be good and ready to move the weekend after next. (eee!) Packing and moving always presents a great opportunity to re-evaluate ones possessions. I am extremely sentimental, so I tend to have tons of shit that is of no use or worth to anyone else but me. I've also moved a ton over the years and have had to (for some reason or another) reluctantly surrender more sentimental shit than I would have cared to otherwise. This move is unique in that we are gaining tons of room, so in theory, we (I) shouldnt have to get rid of anything. However, its unnecessary and stupid to move a bunch of shit you dont need. So each night I find myself evaluating all of my things, and doing my best to let go of things I dont "need". This is especially hard for me because I always have that sinking feeling that the moment I get rid of something, Im going to need or want it again.
A great example of this is my collection of Vanity Fair magazines. Sure, no one needs a surplus of magazines to lug around, but these magazines are full of great articles that I havent read yet and may someday have the time to. Pancho insists that I get rid of them, and I partially agree that I should, I mean, they are heavy and do require a bit of space to take up. But on the other hand, I really dont want to let them go. He posted an ad on Craigslist offering to give them away for free, so I guess I'll leave it up to fate to decide.
Meanwhile, I'll have to do better to get to my things before he does... :)
