Things what I like, Day 1: Coffee and blogs in the morning

My homie KFR is forever FULL of great ideas. So, today I shall copy one of his most recent ones and, in an attempt to up the optimism level on this here blog, list things that I like.

I think coffee and blogs in the morning is akin to previous generations' coffee and the paper in the morning. Its a simple pleasure that I hope I am always afforded. For me, blogs are more fun to read than the paper because we live in a time where the type of information found in the newspaper can also be found on a million other mediums. News is literally at our finger tips at all times and sometimes it baffles me that newspapers are still in business. Its like seeing a payphone and going, "Oh yeah, I remember when those were useful." Blogs are a nice retreat from all of the real news going on in the world; I just wish more of my friends kept one.

Part of me is jealous of the kids today, what with their blogs and myspace and cell phones and text messaging and instant messaging. We didnt have any of that shit in my day. We didnt get to set up a super cool myspace pages to advertise how unique we were, we had to do that with our personalities. We didnt get to network and meet and interact with people from the safety and comfort of our own home (or behind a laptop or cell phone) we had to go out and do it in person, risking face to face ridicule and humiliation. If we wanted to find new bands or expand our music collection we had to do it the hard way, by going to shows (that sometimes sucked) and befriending like minded individuals and copying their tapes and CDs. There were no file sharing programs or Ipods or downloading anything.
If you wanted to own unique clothing, you had to seek that shit out in your home town and make due with what you could find. There was no internet shopping.
These days a kid with a computer and an internet connection (or a cell phone with an internet connection) has everything in the world they could want at their finger tips.
Part of me is jealous that they got this access so soon and so easily, part of me is worried about the repercussions of generations to come that are almost completely void of basic character building aspects of life.

All of that being said, I enjoy the hell out of myspace and blogs and the internets. These things help me keep up on a social life that I made the hard way, and I wouldnt change that for anything.

I have my coffee and blogs on Sunday mornings. During the week I drink my coffee at work, so I can't read blogs, and on Saturdays I leave home for Book Babies at the library before the coffee is ready. So Sundays are my coffee and blogs morning. You're right- blogs are like newspapers, but they only have news that I care about. I am drinking coffee and reading blogs right now.
